Feasibility study completed

The project options for the forest were determined as part of a feasibility study. The Forestry Office Kinsky Burg Heidenreichstein decided in favour of a stock conservation project for at least 30 years, during which the forest carbon store will be secured.

Forest Climate Protection Project

A forest with special features

In the heart of the northern Waldviertel, close to the border with the Czech Republic, the Forestry Office Kinsky Burg Heidenreichstein covers 2,731 hectares. Robust pines and finely grown spruces grow here between dense blueberry and cranberry growth, surrounded by branch mosses and biotope trees. This forest climate protection project not only preserves the carbon reservoir, but also makes a valuable contribution to biodiversity, climate protection and regional responsibility through multifunctional forest management.

timber-icon
Regional logging for sustainable timber

Logging is carried out exclusively by regional companies in order to strengthen the local value chain. The focus of production is on high-quality construction timber that stores the carbon sequestered long after it has left the forest.

people-icon
Forest wonderland - learning to protect nature at an early age

One particular concern is to impart knowledge at a young age. The ‘Wunderweltwald’ project is a fun way of showing children how essential the forest is to our lives - an investment in the next generation and the protection of our forests.

mixed-trees-icon
Targeted measures for a diverse and sustainable forest

The natural regeneration of the forest is promoted through targeted measures such as soil cultivation. The focus here is on increasing the proportion of white pine, carefully reducing the spruce population and at the same time ensuring that valuable biotope trees are preserved.

Genuine

Meaningful actions with your money

The additional resources will ensure that the right measures can be taken for the forest to help it achieve climate stability.

Reforestation

Reforestation of former damaged areas is undertaken.

Regeneration

Measures such as browsing protection, regeneration promoting measures, etc.

Conservation-Icon

Conservation

Biodiversity enhancement, deadwood, water protection.

Protection Forests

Supporting the protective function of the forest, e.g. against erosion, noise or flooding.

Harvest-Icon

Harvesting

More expensive timber harvesting due to difficult accessibility, support by costly technology like cable cranes, etc. is made possible.

Roads-Icon

Forest Infrastructure

Accessibility is improved by the creation and maintenance of roads, which enables careful forest management.

Problems

Insight into the challenges

In order to counteract the daily challenges in the forest and create a solution to multiple problems in this forest, investments are used for the following problems.
temperature-icon
Extreme weather events affect the forests

Extreme weather events, drought and pest infestation, for example by the bark beetle, pose immense challenges for forests and require targeted adaptation measures.

hiking-icon
Tourism in the forest requires sustainable solutions

The growing interest in forests due to tourism increases social demands and poses new challenges for the sustainable use and protection of the ecosystem.

wildlife-icon
Wildlife populations threaten diversity in the forest

Excessive game populations threaten the natural growth of young trees, as rare plants in particular are preferentially eaten. This makes it difficult to establish a diversity of tree species, which makes targeted protection and support measures necessary.

ISO 14064-2:2019 Based Methodology

This project uses the ‘SILVACONSULT® Forest Carbon Standard’ methodology according to ISO 14064-2:2019, which ensures that companies use transparent and consistent methods to measure and report their emissions.

TUEV-icon

Externally Certified Projects

The validation of this project is carried out by an external certifier such as TÃœV Austria. Tree.ly then coordinates the annual monitoring by the certifier as well as the marketing and distribution of the verified climate protection services (VER).
